Steele House
Annapolis, Maryland

Side view after restoration

Front elevation after restoration

The Steele House was built for the daughter of Francis Scott Key and Nancy Tayloe Lloyd Key.  Maria Lloyd Key Steele and Henry Maynadier Steele were married in 1823.  The house is depicted in completed form in Sache's 1858 "Bird's Eye View of Annapolis", so construction would have occurred between those dates.  the house features an extremely deep Italianate bracketed cornice and a strong street presence.

In 1994 Bohl Architects designed a full master plan for restoration and modernization.  Exterior restoration included masonry, woodwork and new roofing.  Interior restoration of primary living spaces and the installation of all new mechanical infrastructure was followed by the reorganization of the entire second floor.  Renovation of the kitchen and informal living area of the first floor were not executed.
