Waterfront Retreat

This beach-side property was a vacation retreat for our client and her family for many years.  As her children grew up and had families of their own, the extended family started to outgrow the existing tiny bungalow.  Our client requested that we design a new, cozy weekend home that could also accommodate the entire family-- including seven grandchildren!

One of the things the family loved about their old bungalow was the large screened porch.  For this reason, we included a screened porch in the new design.  A custom sliding door of four large glass panels takes up the entire wall between the screened porch and the great room.  On beautiful days, all four door panels can be slid into a pocket between the two fireplaces to open up the entire house to the outdoors.

The exterior of the house is broken down into smaller scale elements which fit into the local neighborhood of small summer cottages.

Furnishings selected by Barbara Bohl, our interior designer, complement the house's clean, light-filled spaces and minimalist details.
